    Description

The wool from this vintage Peruvian Poncho  is dyed with natural dyes & hand woven. This style was common wear for men, although it can be unisex. I purchased it in the early 1980's in Los Altos, Ca. at a local antique open air market. The owner told me that she had traded for it in a small local village in Peru many years prior.
I had it laundered at that time and wore it a handful of times. I contacted the Textile Museum in Washington D,C.for information on the poncho. The curator could not tell me how old it was but told me it was prior to 1960's, not made for the tourist market. It was possibly woven in the Pisac area or Urubamba Valley, as their textiles are similar.
It is in very good condition with the exception of a small soil spot which is pictured in the last photo, not very noticeable. Size is 38 1/2"x 45". My husband is wearing the poncho in the photos, he is 5'10" tall and wears a size large mens jacket. Please see photos, if you have any questions please ask.
