    Description

A traditional Peruvian ethnic rug/ throw/ blanket. It's  approximately 67" by 70". These have been used as a floor rug, a throw at the foot of the bed or a picnic blanket. They have been made in Peru and Bolivia for personal use. Known as
    frazadas
(which means blankets or bed covers) they have been hand-woven in the Andes since pre-Hispanic times. Traditionally used to protect against the high-altitude cold, they - and the one for sale - are thick and heavy enough to be used as a rug. They have been made from sheep or alpaca wool using natural dyes.
    How It’s Made
The process begins by shearing the sheep. The fibers are then dyed with natural dyes from plants, fruits, insects, or roots. Once dyed, the fibers are spun before being woven.
The weaving starts out twice the length of the completed frazada, and is then cut in half and sewn together in the middle with a whipstitch. In total, the process usually takes 4-6 weeks to complete.
Condition can be seen from the photos and you are welcome to ask any questions. There's a little bit of bleeding of the pink, one place (where the two parts have been joined, as described above) you can see a bit of the pre-dyed color. etc.).
I photographed both sides. Feel free to ask any questions before you commit to buy.
From a perfume, smoke, pets-free home. Been laundered with non-scented natural soap.
