Description
A mate is a container generally made from "gourd" species of the genus Lagenaria. They can also be made of wood, guampa or bull horn, glass, plastics, silver, enameled brass and, recently, silicone; This container is used to drink the homonymous infusion. The Incas developed the technique further and used mates intensively as vessels, musical instruments, and ceremonial objects. On the surface, they represented agricultural and social activities that were accompanied by geometric motifs.
