Hand Made and Hand Colorful Painted Local Folk Art from from wood with plaster, cooked potato starch, wood and paint. This is an example of hand made Peruvian folk art that was usually unsigned and sold to tourists. Lots of color and textural interest. This is an NOS New Old Stock item from a shop in Santa Fe, NM, that closed around 1985 and has been in storage since then. See the photos.
    Retablos are a sophisticated Peruvian folk art in the form of portable boxes which depict religious, historical, or everyday events that are important to the Indigenous people of the highlands. It is a tradition originated in Ayacucho.
